The Merlin "Safari" is the true off-road trailer. It can run on most sizes of wheel and tyre to match your towing vehicle. Whether on an African safari, off-road trip or your European camping holiday you can feel safe that both trailer and car spare wheel are interchangeable. Also if you are carrying only 1 spare wheel you will be saving weight and space.
Available with 50mm ball or 40mm eye hitch, both with full 360 degree swivel capability. The Safari is braked as standard, rated at 1500 Kg max gross weight, and uses a beam axle with leaf springs giving it strength and durability while keeping field repairs simple. It also has, as standard, front and rear side fenders integrated into the chassis frame to protect wheels and arches for the most serious off-road conditions. The fenders also help as access steps. The Safari also comes as standard with a sealed locking lid that utilises gas assist struts.
Developed through our experience using the trailers off-road and as support on several trips to Africa the Safari trailer has proven its self over and over.
The Chassis is manufactured from 3mm thick box section which gives it tremendous strength and durability, it is then galvanised to give it a life time resistance to corrosion.
Fabricated from “Zintec” and using the latest in CAD equipment, the body work is precision cut and formed. The body is then built using a bonding adhesive sealant. Tests have proven this to be stronger than welding whilst still staying marginally flexible. This is ideal, as trailers are very susceptible to long term fatigue from road vibration. The body is then bonded and riveted to the chassis before a marine ply base is bonded and sealed into place.
